Hepatitis A is a virus that causes inflammation of your liver. It is spread by eating or drinking contaminated food or water. Previous infection with hepatitis A provides lifetime immunity. A simple blood test can find out if you have had past infection. Hepatitis A is rare in the UK, so you will probably only have immunity if you have lived overseas and not been vaccinated against Hepatitis A.
